Tips for short term stress relief

In the fast, competitive world we live in, there are so many challenges we face physically and mentally. Physical challenges are comparatively easy to overcome, but mental challenges leave a mark that requires more care. Here are a few ways you can boost your mental health.

Start your day with a cup of coffee:

We aren’t asking you to have 5 cups a day, THAT is unhealthy. But starting your day with a cup is healthy, it is known to lower rates of depression. Caffeine like any other stimulant increases the flow of hormones in your body giving you the feeling of being happy and energetic which gives you the boost you need in the morning.


Not with chemicals, not in a lab, just a day in your room trying something new. Try a new hobby, Re-de your study table, attempt a new recipe, break the monotony of your daily life. Experimenting with new things keeps your mind occupied not letting it obsess over sad unnecessary thoughts.

Find reasons to laugh:

You see people in the morning laughing hysterically and call it exercise. Looks funny but actually works. Of course you don’t have to do the same thing, but find some things to laugh at through your day. Watch a funny movie, catch up with old friends, relive your younger, dumber days, or just watch a couple of cute funny videos before you sleep. Laughing is a good way of reducing anxiety and lay off steam after a stressful day.

Go off the grid:

This is something we expect can be done only on a weekend, so take the opportunity this Sunday and cut yourself off from your mobiles and laptops. Our work and the constant need to be connected to the outside world has restricted us from physically enjoying it. Getting rid of your emails, texts , social media for a day gives you a turn to reconnect with yourself and feel fresh. It is also a known fact that social media can be a leading cause of depression and can lower your self esteem, so you’re actually just doing yourself a favor.

30 minute date with nature:

Ever wondered why people say “Get some fresh air, you’ll feel better” ? Simple, because it does. Whether you’re a morning person or not, find 30 minutes of your day to take a walk. Of course exercises and walks can be healthy physically but they do wonders for your mind too. Just give it a try, wake up one morning, take your headphone and just go for a walk, you’ll feel different, fresh and calm all day long.

Sometimes no matter how many new activities you try, nothing seems to make you feel better. In situations like these, it is advisable to visit a doctor. Having someone experienced in the field to talk to and vent out can help solve a lot of long term problems. So don’t hesitate, getting help is healthy.
